The Denver Art Museum also offers a variety of special programs and events throughout the year. On top of that, free days are scattered throughout the year, so even if you're on a tight budget, there are ways to enjoy all that this location has to offer.

2. The Denver Performing Arts Complex

Visiting the Denver Performing Arts Complex is one of the best cultural activities to take part in while visiting Colorado. The beautiful and inviting grounds of the complex are just a short walk from the Colorado Convention Center and its iconic blue bear statue.

Themed areas such as the Kidzopolis Area, Safari Plunge, and Pirate Ship Zone provide something for everyone. On top of all the fun rides, there are also numerous shows and concerts held throughout the year at the Garden Amphitheatre.

 For those looking for more than just a day at the theme park, there’s also plenty to do nearby. Shopping enthusiasts will be happy to know that Elitch Gardens is located within walking distance from many retail stores on 16th Street Mall. In addition to that, there are several restaurants around the area, so you won’t have to go far for a bite to eat after your day of fun.

Whether you are looking for a cultural experience, an adrenaline rush, or just a good time, the Denver Performing Arts Complex and Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park provide plenty of activities that are sure to satisfy all your needs. 4. Denver Civic Center Park

If you are looking for a place to enjoy the outdoors, look no further than Denver Civic Center Park. This beautiful park is home to several public gardens, sculptures, and other artwork, as well as plenty of open space perfect for relaxing or taking in some sun.

 The park also hosts free concerts and movies throughout the summer months, which makes it a great spot to spend an evening with friends. For those looking for something a bit more active, the park also offers volleyball, croquet, and bocce leagues in addition to its jogging paths, bike trails, and outdoor fitness equipment. 5. Hikes & Rocky Mountain National Park

While there are just so many outdoor activities near Denver for all the people who love the outdoors, we will only highlight Rocky Mountain National Park in this guide. If you are interested in more day hikes, we recommend checking out Trading Post Trail (Red Rocks Mountain Park), Chautauqua and The Mesa Trail (Boulder), Garden of the Gods (Colorado Springs), Brainard Lake Recreation Area (Peak to Peak Highway), Mohawk Lakes (Breckenridge), Grays and Torreys Peaks (Arapahoe National Forest), Chasm Lake (Longs Peak)Mount Elbert (Sawatch Range).

Rocky Mountain National Park encompasses a spectacular range of mountain environments and it’s a great destination during all four seasons. From Denver, you can travel to Bear Lake Trailhead and hike to the beautiful Emerald Lake, or to Bear Lake to Fern Lake. Both hikes can be completed in one day and you will be stunned by the incredible views!

Visiting Metro Denver’s Seven Art Districts is truly one of the most inspiring and memorable experiences that a person can have. From the Santa Fe Arts District to Pearl Street in Boulder, there are endless opportunities to explore, create, and be inspired.

6. Santa Fe Art District

At the Santa Fe Art District, between 6th and 13th Avenue on Santa Fe Drive, you can find some 30 galleries, studios, and restaurants – all with unique creativity.

This district is considered by many to be at the heart of Denver’s art scene, and Friday or Saturday nights are great times to pay a visit, with street performers and music providing a vibrant atmosphere.

 

7. The Golden Triangle Creative District

Another great place to explore Denver’s cultural heritage. The district is home to eight museums, including the Denver Art Museum, as well as plenty of public art and sculptures that invite reflection and appreciation.

What’s more, the area connecting the Santa Fe Arts neighborhood with the Golden Triangle neighborhood is just a short walk away.

 

8. River North Art District (or RiNo)

This district has been rapidly growing in popularity and offers visitors an array of creative establishments, murals, and restaurants. If you’re looking for something unique and different than what Downtown Denver has to offer, then this is definitely worth visiting.

Similarly, the Art District in Santa Fe is another great area to explore and offers an eclectic range of galleries, restaurants, and other attractions.

 

9. The Highlands Neighborhood

Home to a number of notable art galleries and live music venues, making it a popular spot for visitors looking to experience Denver’s vibrant cultural scene.

In nearby Lakewood, there’s Arts on Belmar which has a diverse collection of studios and galleries intermingled with shopping and dining spots. 40 West Arts in Lakewood is also worth visiting for its expansive array of public art installations, including colorful murals that have become iconic features in the district.


10. Pearl Street 

Last but not least, head out to Pearl Street in Boulder – about 30-45 minutes from Denver – for some of the city’s most picturesque walks. The area has many shops hosting local artists, live music, food, and street entertainers that come alive in the evening time. Finally, don’t miss out on 16th Street Mall – a great place to feel the capital city’s pulse with its street performers and sculptures.
